"Few combine garage rock energy with a troubadour sensitivity better than Malin." - Uncut

Jesse Malin & The St. Marks Social announce UK Tour

Following the critical acclaim for his new album “Love It To Life” (out now on SideOneDummy Records), Jesse Malin and his new band, The St. Marks Social will be hitting these shores for a full UK tour this Summer.

The dates are as follows:

June

23rd Bristol, Thekla
25th Birmingham, Academy 3
28th Nottingham, Rescue Rooms
29th Newcastle, Academy 2
30th Edinburgh, Cabaret Voltaire

July

1st Glasgow, Oran Mor
3rd Belfast, Auntie Annies
4th Dublin, Academy 2
5th Liverpool, Academy 2
6th Cardiff, Clwb Ifor Bach
7th Manchester, Ruby Lounge
8th London, Islington Academy
9th Northampton, Roadmenders
10th Norwich, Arts Centre

After three critically acclaimed solo records, dozens of world tours and TV appearances, Jesse Malin found himself back in New York City questioning his next move. From his days fronting seminal hardcore trio Heart Attack and infamous glam punks D Generation, then seven years on the road as a solo artist, Malin had cultivated a devout fan base. He'd shared stages with everyone from The White Stripes to Counting Crows, The Hold Steady to Lucinda Williams, but felt like he was losing the plot.

Malin contemplated going back to school, becoming a standup comedian or a Las Vegas wedding DJ, and even started work on a documentary film about DC hardcore Rastafarians The Bad Brains. For over a year he didn't play or record. When asked by a Hollywood screenwriter to pen songs for a film about author J.D. Salinger, Malin — a fan of Catcher in the Rye and other Salinger works — traveled to Cornish, NH hoping to speak to the famous recluse. In typical punk-rock fashion, instead of getting the interview, Malin landed at the local precinct for trespassing and was released only after the cops watched his video duet with Bruce Springsteen for “Broken Radio” on YouTube and were convinced he was just a writer doing research. Though he never met Salinger (who passed away this past January), Malin made the most of the experience by writing “The Archer” and “Lonely at Heart”—two songs that would make him want to work again and become the basis for his new album.

Over the summer of 2009, in the basement of Avenue A watering hole Hi-Fi, the songs came forth. Malin, with impresario Don DiLego, drummer Randy Schrager, guitarist Matt Hogan, and bassist/DJ Tommy USA, worked with his newly formed band to bash out an album's worth of gritty anthems, and The St. Marks Social was born. A solid band, but one with an open door to Malin's community of musician friends - longtime partner in crime Ryan Adams, pop singer Mandy Moore, fellow label mate Brian Fallon, and former bandmates from D Generation Howie Pyro and Danny Sage - the Social is a group effort to keep the P.M.A. Says Malin, “To me, rock ‘n' roll is an exorcism that begins every night when the sun goes down, the music starts playing, and the spirits start flowing. It helps to say things in public over dirty microphones. It's a way to spit out the poison.”

When Jesse met producer Ted Hutt (Lucero, Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem) one drunken night at a local bar, their talk of making a record fast, loose, and raw, was the beginning of Hutt's quest to create a record that would encompass Malin's roots and evolution—from hardcore thrasher to punk/folk singer-songwriter. The album's basic tracks were laid in three days at Greenpoint, Brooklyn's Mission Studios, and the rest at Sonic Youth's Think Tank Studios in Hoboken, NJ. Filled with the characters Malin does best—messengers and misanthropes, hipsters and hypocrites—and as always, his constant themes of redemption, nightlife, heartbreak, and survival, LOVE IT TO LIFE—a sentiment taken from a ticket stub Joe Strummer autographed for Jesse—was built with desperate optimism that shouts in gang vocals that no matter how bad it gets, you're never alone.

Diamond Eyes

One of the most respected and enduring forces in modern rock music, Deftones return with the May 3rd release of their sixth full studio ‘Diamond Eyes’. Previously available as a limited free download, the track ‘Rocket Skates’ sparked a flurry of anticipation among fans when it was debuted on the band’s official site in February.

The band has announced that they will play a very intimate show in London on May 12th at The ULU. This very special show will be filmed as part of the “MTV Presents” series. To be in with a chance of being there you will need to get over to www.ukundercurrent.com.

Tickets and album bundles will go on sale at 2pm on April 28th 2010. The album will be available on CD, Digital and Vinyl formats

Prices and formats are as follows:

Ticket: £25.00
Ticket+Digital Download: £31.99
Ticket+CD: £34.99
Ticket+ Limited Edition White Vinyl (with a download card ) : £42.99

Produced and mixed by Nick Raskulinecz (Alice in Chains, Coheed & Cambria, Foo Fighters), and recorded and engineered by Paul "Fig" Figueroa (Alice in Chains, Bad Religion), ‘Diamond Eyes’ is a powerful combination of muscular impact and expansive atmospherics clarity that charts the latest development in the band’s ever growing sonic range.

Opening with the title track’s grinding riffs and near subliminal hook, the album’s range encompasses the blowtorch attack of ‘CMND/CNTRL’ and the sinister melancholy that underpins ‘Beauty School’. As ever, the album blends the band’s seamless ability to float between genres; ‘Sex Tape’ glides with an eerie, discomforting beauty, while the combination of battering rhythms and Chino Moreno’s harsh howl ensure that ‘Royal’ demonstrates Deftones’ continuing ability to enthrall with visceral sounds.

‘Diamond Eyes’ also represents former Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega’s recording debut with Deftones. Vega is standing in for Chi Cheng, who was seriously injured in a car accident in November 2008.

The album’s title track will be the band’s next full single release and is due out on May 3rd.

Deftones will return to the UK to play the Download festival on June 12th.

Diamond Eyes

is coming... UK release date May 4th!!

Parkway Drive Record new album!

PARKWAY DRIVE TO START RECORDING THIRD ALBUM IN MARCH

Australia’s biggest hardcore-metal band Parkway Drive has announced plans to return to the studio to record their third studio album, which is expected to be released later this summer via Epitaph Records. The long-awaited follow-up to 2007’s hard-hitting breakout album Horizons was written in the band’s hometown of Byron Bay over the past six months and will be recorded in Los Angeles with celebrated producer Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion) over the coming weeks.

Determined to surpass previous efforts, Parkway Drive have gone all out in creating a complete listening experience. While maintaining the band’s trademark sound at its core, their forthcoming album will weave music, lyrics and artwork together into a dense concept that flows from beginning to end. “Writing with a concept in mind has given us more direction,” explains Parkway Drive frontman Winston McCall. “Every song on this album was created with a definite purpose, as opposed to just writing a riff and building on that.”

While McCall concedes the album’s basic narrative – the tale of a man lacking direction in life who goes looking for answers at the bottom of the sea – is “kind of bizarre,” he says the concept was flexible enough to open itself up to many far-reaching ideas. “The ocean is where I find the most clarity,” says the former bodyboard champion. “To go to the beach and sink into the water, the sound cuts out and you can just forget about everything. So I guess the concept is about cutting out everything and focusing on what’s inside yourself.”

Parkway Drive’s achievements are unmatched in Australian heavy music circles. After two huge-selling albums, 2004’s Killing With A Smile and 2007’s Horizons (the latter achieving Top 6 chart success in Oz), last year’s Parkway Drive: The DVD was met with a typically rabid response. It debuted at #2 on the ARIA chart and achieved Platinum status within weeks. By year’s end it was Australia’s biggest selling local artist DVD and was crowned ‘Best Music DVD’ at the 2009 Rolling Stone Awards. Their constant global touring has helped cement Parkway Drive’s reputation as one of the most dominant exponents of heavy hardcore in the world today.

Having recorded their first two albums with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage), the forthcoming album finds Parkway Drive turning to seasoned veteran Joe Barresi. Known for his work with big-league rock acts including Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion and Tool, Barresi will handle the recording and mix at his home studio, JHOC (Joe’s House of Compression) in Los Angeles, before renowned mastering engineer Brian Gardner (Avenged Sevenfold, Lamb of God, Nine Inch Nails) applies the finishing touches in Hollywood.

By that time Parkway Drive should be back on the road again. First stop is Europe and the UK throughout April and May, where they’ll play their biggest headlining dates so far, before their anticipated appearance at Vans Warped Tour in the US this summer.

Already top of the most hotly anticipated heavy releases of 2010, their forthcoming album promises to be a new and exciting chapter in the story of Australia’s most successful metal-hardcore band.

“This is the heaviest thing we’ve written, and at the same time the catchiest,” McCall warns. “And while we always want to keep the definitive Parkway Drive sound, there are a couple of things that will hopefully add another dimension to what we do.”

After a decade of world-wide touring, charting singles and three fan-cherished albums selling over a million copies to date, Story of the Year have returned with an explosive new album, The Constant, available now on Epitaph Records

Spending the best part of 2009 at home, Story of the Year focused on stripping the excesses, getting back to basics and re-energizing the music that initially brought them together, before hitting the studio with producer Elvis Baskette (Chevelle, Cold, Escape The Fate) for their fourth studio album and follow-up to 2008’s The Black Swan. Holed up in a secluded studio, the band proceeded to craft some of the best music of their career.

“This was the fastest recording and writing experience for us ever and it was cool because we didn’t overthink everything,” explains the band’s vocalist Dan Marsala—who alongside guitarists Ryan Phillips and Philip Sneed, bassist Adam “The Skull” Russell and drummer Josh Willis make up Story Of The Year. “Writing and recording The Black Swan was a long, grueling process and this time we wanted to do the opposite: just have fun, be spontaneous and make it exciting—and it worked out better,” he continues. “Everyone is so happy with the end product and it was a great time.”

Fans of Story of the Year’s beloved debut album Page Avenue as well as their most recent release The Black Swan will be pleased to know The Constant has something for everyone. The Constant’s anthemic rock tracks and emotional ballads will strike a familiar chord with long time fans while newer converts will embrace the band’s notorious raw energy and fresh songwriting. Showcasing their musicianship and songwriting skills with radio-ready tracks like the first single “I’m Alive,” the snarling metal of “To The Burial,” driving, post-hardcore masterpiece “The Dream Is Over,” the soon-to-be fan favorite sing along “The Ghost of You and I” and the heartfelt piano ballad “Holding On To You,” The Constant sees Story of the Year sonically stretching to create their most diverse and accomplished collection of songs yet.

The album’s title embodies the band’s work ethic and commitment to both themselves and their fans. “Music is the constant thing in life for us,” Marsala explains. “When I go to bed I think about music and when I wake up it’s the first thing on my mind,” he continues. “The Constant can mean anything; hopefully our band will go on forever and we want music to remain a constant thing in our lives no matter what.”

Fans are encouraged to follow the band’s Twitter/ Facebook pages for news, updates, contests, free tickets and more.

Audra Mae UK Tour and Debut Album!

Audra Mae announces London Shows
Debut album “The Happiest Lamb” out May 17th
On SideOneDummy Records

Phenomenal singer-songwriter Audra Mae has announced a series of intimate London shows this April. Be sure to catch her incredible live show at one of the following venues this spring:

April

13th London, The Underbelly
14th London, Flowerpot
15th London, Water Rats
17th London, Westminster Reference Library

Audra Mae is a natural treasure. Once the Oklahoma native opens her mouth and lets loose with that voice, pure and strong, with a hint of country twang and a twinkle of good humor, you realize this is what she’s meant to do… Stand in front of an audience and entertain, not just with her singing, but a distinctive songwriting voice, one that’s capable of relating fully developed characters and stories, all of which can be heard on her debut, “The Happiest Lamb” out May 17th on SideOneDummy Records.

Signed to L.A.-based label SideOneDummy, known more for punk-rock groups like Flogging Molly, Gaslight Anthem and Gogol Bordello than Americana roots singer-songwriters, Audra Mae is not as out of place as it would seem. After five years working her way through the local L.A. club scene, Audra found exactly what she was looking for in the fiercely independent record company.

Growing up, show business was in Audra Mae’s blood going back to Vaudeville. Her great grandmother, Virginia, was a member of The Gumm Sisters, who’s youngest member, Francis Ethel Gumm, grew up to be Judy Garland. Her paternal grandmother turned her on to country and folk artists like Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Woody Guthrie, while her maternal grandfather introduced her to jazz.

By the time she was 17, Audra Mae had taught herself to play guitar and piano. She went to Middle Tennessee State University for a year, flunked out, and moved to California, arriving January 8, 2004, Elvis Presley’s birthday, with $20 in her pocket.
In five years Audra Mae has landed publishing deal with Warner Chappell, a TV placement singing Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” on the FX series Sons of Anarchy, a deal with Side OneDummy and in late 2009, wrote the lyrics to “Who I Was Born to Be”, (music by Swedish songwriter trio, Play Production) the only original track on Susan Boyle’s chart-topping, 9 million-selling “I Dreamed a Dream album”, and it has turned out to be a dream come true for the 25-year-old singer-songwriter.
“I had no idea that it would be like this,” she says. “It’s a crazy twist of fate.”

After finishing up “The Happiest Lamb”, Audra Mae is set to do what she does best—perform and entertain people in person.

2009 has been the year of Mastodon. “CRACK THE SKYE” was released in March to the delight of music fans and journalists around the world. Once again, they didn't disappoint. The album’s dark, brooding textures and undeniable progressive sound takes you on a rollercoaster that you want to ride over and over again. Mastodon spent most of 2009 on the road, playing intimate shows where they treated fans to “CRACK THE SKYE” in its entirety followed by an onslaught of classics from previous albums in an 80 minute live extravaganza to touring with Metallica on their massive European tour and as part of the brilliant Sonisphere line up.

Since forming in 2000, Mastodon have essentially lived on the road. After non-stop touring, the band, Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher, Troy Sanders and Brent Hinds decided to record a demo, which would ultimately be released in a shortened EP form on Relapse Records as Lifeblood.

The success of the EP spurned more touring, and even greater success. Their first full-length album Remission, followed in 2002. True to form another round of touring ensued and then Leviathan an album critics were quick to embrace. But it's with the band's legion of fans that they have really delivered.

Mastodon's "blue collar" touring ethic has earned them constant accolades from fans that have grown accustomed to their accessibility, approachability and dedication as a working mans band. Rare is the artist who achieves that critical balance coupled with the level of fan support Mastodon has attained. Blood Mountain was released in September of 2006 to critical acclaim and was also nominated for a Grammy award.

The Worldonfire

The Worldonfire

“…Sail The Rough Sea” out on Dead Planet Records
September 21st 2009

Dave Walsh (vocals), Haaris Ali (guitar), Bill Ginn (guitar), George Harris (bass), Joe Lazarus (drums)

Integrity, graft and independence are all vital watchwords for The Worldonfire as they strive to deliver their freewheeling collision of genres to its widest audience yet. Yet ambition is nothing without talent and, as their upcoming album ‘…Sail The Rough Sea’ demonstrates, the Harlow quintet have that in abundance. Their sound flows between the intelligent crafted alt-rock of Biffy Clyro or Yourcodenameis:milo with the aggressive hook-laden edge of post-hardcore greats from Hüsker Dü to the modern day with Taking Back Sunday.

Recorded with the production expertise of Ant Chapman (Klaxons, Mclusky) and Oceansize vocalist / guitarist Mike Vennart, ‘…Sail The Rough Sea’ is the product of a hectic two-year schedule that commenced when The Worldonfire’s current line-up was solidified. Since then, they’ve headlined shows across the country (including 250-800 capacity gigs in the south-east), played with bands including Enter Shikari, Oceansize, Frank Turner, Good Shoes, Miocene and Fighting With Wire and also released their debut EP ‘Garden Cities Of Tomorrow’ and the debut album ‘…Live To Tell The Tale.’ Not bad going for any band, let alone one self-funded by the members’ day jobs.

“The band is our job,” explains guitarist Haaris Ali with the glee of a man who has identified his ‘job’ as his life’s calling. “Everything else is just what we do to feed the machine.”

Although progress has been fast for The Worldonfire, they have an enviable advantage over other bands in the shape of a friendship between Ali and vocalist Dave Walsh that stretches back over two decades. Together they’ve progressed from childhood to taking their first tentative steps playing Oasis and Blur covers and into a band that could shape their future. Their college years uncovered guitarist Bill Ginn and, later, drummer Joe Lazarus, before bassist George Harris completed the band as it is today.

“We’re quite a tight-knit unit. We live our lives together,” affirms Walsh with the confidence and immediate affability that defines some of music’s great frontmen. “Some bands will go weeks without seeing each other, but we see each other literally every day whether it’s for rehearsals or not.”

Initially conceived as an EP, ‘…Sail The Rough Sea’ appeared to have a plan of its own to develop as a full length album. The band’s creativity and hard work yielded a rich vein of their best material to date that just couldn’t be ignored. When Oceansize’s Mike Vennart offered, modestly, to “help out”, it was too compelling an opportunity to pass on.

The Worldonfire’s place is in the music scene is, according to Ali, alongside the likes of Biffy Clyro and Yourcodenameis:milo. “They’re in the same sort of ilk as what we do and it would be nice to be held up on the same sort of plateau as them. They worked hard and wrote intelligent, well thought out music. It’s not a flash in the pan.”

“We’re not in it for the fame or fortune,” concludes Walsh in consideration to their future. “We just want to keep enjoying it and to keep pushing forwards.”
