Imperial Leisure spent 2007 conquering crowds across the UK. They (legitimately) played festivals such as The Secret Garden Party, Exeter Respect, Blissfields and The Brick Lane Festival, not to mention (illegitimately playing in the car parks at) Reading, En-Dorset, Fruitstock and LoveBox, as well as springing spontaneous gigs on unsuspecting but hugely appreciative crowds in shopping centers, parks, and on beaches around the UK.

Last November saw the boys successfully supporting US hip-hoppers Ugly Duckling on 14 dates, a highlight of the year for all concerned. Recent supports have included Roots Manuva, Gym Class Heroes (at their recent sell-out London Forum show), the legendary Sugar Hill Gang, The Beat, Sway and Skinnyman.

The fan-base Imperial Leisure have built through their live activity has paid off with their debut single, “In A Letter”, selling out on the day of release. Radio support has been extensive, with both the first single and the follow-up, “Man On The Street” playlisted by Colin Murray at Radio One, Xfm in London, Manchester and Cardiff and Virgin Xtreme, with additional enthusiastic plays from BBC London’s Gary Crowley, Shaun Keaveny at BBC 6Music and Kerrang! Radio.

Imperial Leisure have received huge support from Myspace, where they have twice been Myspace Featured Artists, and where their videos have been included on the Cool New Video section of the home page. Recently they heard they have made it through to the final 14 bands, selected from over 2000, in this year’s “Road to V Festival” competition.

Building on these solid foundations, the band have been in the studio with Russ Keffert aka Junk Scientist (Larrikin Love, The Rakes), recording their next single, “ Great British Summertime” out July 28th, and completing their debut album due to be released in September.

Imperial Leisure are a phenomenon: a ten-piece band playing their own particular blend of ska, rap and rock music, complete with live brass section, rhythm section and fronted by two MCs and a singer. Their music is a killer combination of great beats, great tunes and irresistibly catchy lyrics.

Influences come from all over the place: in addition to a huge admiration of great British bands such as The Specials, Madness and The Prodigy, each band member brings his own flavour to the mix. Some of the guys have been mates since attending secondary school in North London. The sense of unity and familiarity that comes from years of friendship and hanging out together is very much evident in both the band’s sound and relationships. Based at their own rehearsal/recording studio in Tottenham, (right next door to the Spurs ground at White Hart Lane) they work together and party together, and put equal energy into doing both.

"UNHOLY ALLIANCE TOUR, CHAPTER III" LAUNCHES ITS FIRST 2008 ASSAULT WITH METAL HAMMER SPONSORED UK DATES

The UK leg of the mighty "Unholy Alliance Tour, Chapter III" has been confirmed to kick off in Manchester, England on October 27. This third installment of what has been hailed as "the heaviest, darkest tour of the year," the "Unholy Alliance Tour, Chapter III" will feature Slayer, the undisputed kings of extreme speed/thrash metal, and two true princes of the genre, Trivium and Mastodon. An opening act will be announced shortly. While Slayer will close all of the shows, they will be co-billed with Trivium on the UK dates.

Matthew Heafy, Trivium's frontman commented "Trivium is honored that Slayer has invited us to tour with them on the 'Unholy Alliance Tour.' All of us in Trivium are diehard Slayer fans and we look up to them for their music and longevity. They are one of the true pillars of heavy metal and for us to share stages with them is both an honor and a privilege. We've also known the Mastodon guys for a few years and we're definitely looking forward to hanging with them as well." The Unholy Alliance tour first launched in Fall, 2004 with a European edition that featured Slipknot, Slayer, Mastodon and Hatebreed. The venture was so successful, the first North American trek, dubbed "The Unholy Alliance Tour, Chapter II: Preaching to The Perverted," kicked off in Summer, 2006 with Slayer, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Mastodon, and Thine Eyes Bleed stomping and screaming its way to 30 U.S. and Canadian cities. The European run of "Unholy Alliance Tour, Chapter II" took place in Fall, 2006, featuring Slayer, In Flames, Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, and Thing Eyes Bleed.

SLAYER
A journalist once wrote of Slayer, "If Thomas Jefferson were alive today, he undoubtedly would be listening to Slayer." Indeed, in the beginning, when there were no blueprints, no set paths, no boundaries or steps to follow, SLAYER assaulted the world with its new hybrid of metal and punk. Heavier, faster and darker than the rest, Slayer set the new standard which all others continue to follow. Slayer is the band that all other heavy acts are measured against, defining not only a genre but an attitude. For more than two-and-a-half decades, Slayer's onslaught of sheer brutality has proven them to be the supreme thrash-metal band on the planet. Entire countries have banned their music, NARAS has graced them with two Grammy Awards. Slayer is currently writing material for a new album, release date TBD.

TRIVIUM
Orlando, FL heavy metallers TRIVIUM are delighted to be co-headlining with SLAYER on the UK leg of this year's colossal UNHOLY ALLIANCE tour. Having performed over 600 shows in the last 36 months alone, Trivium are no strangers to the stage and life on the road. Last year, the worldwide million-selling band toured extensively with Machine Head, co-headlining the impressive Black Crusade tour, as well as finding time to play shows with the legendary Iron Maiden amongst others. Since then, they have been hard at work on their next studio album for Roadrunner Records, due for release on September 29, 2008.

MASTODON
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Mastodon have been critically acclaimed by almost every publication in the US and Europe. Their Grammy nominated album, Blood Mountain, the group's third release, isn't just unconventional, it's surreal, progressive and unrepentantly heavy. Mastodon combined their favorite musical styles, including thrash, doom, prog and psychedelic metal to concoct something utterly original, undeniably devastating and irrefutably entrancing. They are currently in the studio with producer Brendan O'Brien recording their follow up to "Blood Mountain."

Nearly a decade after the release of their groundbreaking debut, The Sickness, Disturbed have become one of the most passionate and well-respected bands in the hard-rock universe, a dependable source not only of pummeling riffs and jackhammer beats, but of personal and political insights into our troubled times. Yet success (in the form of three platinum-plus albums, with both Believe and Ten Thousand Fists topping Billboard’s album chart and over nine million albums sold) hasn’t dulled this Chicago-based foursome’s taste for adventure. If anything, Disturbed’s loyal fanbase has pushed the band to newer heights of self-expression. So it makes sense that on the occasion of their fourth album, Indestructible, that frontman David Draiman, guitarist Dan Donegan and drummer Mike Wengren decided to take the reins and produce themselves in the studio.
“Doing three records with Johnny K taught us a tremendous amount,” Draiman says of the industry veteran who helmed The Sickness, Believe and Ten Thousand Fists. “We’re always trying to evolve and try new things and experiment,” adds Donegan. “So this time we wanted to do things a little bit differently.” Wengren says that Indestructible—which the band tracked over three months in Fall 2007 at Chicago’s Groovemaster Recording—afforded the band the “opportunity to prove to ourselves and to everybody else that we could do it.” The result of Disturbed’s experimentation in the studio is the group’s darkest, angriest outing yet. Inspired by two and a half years’ worth of challenging experiences, Draiman told the rest of the band that he was in the mood to purge. Fortunately, they were right there with him.
“We wanted to get back to some of the elements that were maybe lacking on the last two records,” says Donegan. “David’s got a great ability to sing really melodically, but we wanted him to get back to the rhythmic, animalistic, rapid-fire delivery he’s known for. He’s very hard to touch when he does that, and we wanted to give him music to provoke that.”
Indestructible reflects that intensity of emotion across a broad spectrum of songs: “Deceiver” takes to task a former girlfriend of Draiman’s whom he calls “a master of deception.”
“Divide” celebrates the will of the individual against the conformity of the masses. In “Haunted,” which Draiman calls a veiled critique of Los Angeles (where he lived for a few years before recently moving back to Chicago), a place of love becomes a nightmare landscape populated by demons masquerading in human form. “Inside The Fire” imagines the devil encouraging the singer to take his own life as a way of rejoining his dead girlfriend. (“Writing this record is the reason I don’t have therapy bills,” Draiman notes.)
Two of the album’s most powerful tracks address the situation in the Middle East, with “Enough” lamenting the causes of war and the suffering it causes, and the title track offering support for the troops “or anyone else looking to strip themselves of fear,” as Draiman says.
Throughout Indestructible, Donegan, Wengren and Moyer back up Draiman’s words with some of the most visceral, sophisticated music they’ve ever created. Donegan says his goal was to increase the dynamics—“to have the highs be higher and the lows be lower”—and to make more cohesive the relationship that exists between guitar, bass and drums and the band’s signature electronics.
“I don’t wanna sound arrogant,” says Wengren with a laugh, “but I think we’ve made the kind of record the industry needs right now. There are not a lot of heavy bands delivering these days. I think our fans—and fans of this genre—will go absolutely nuts for this.” “People never lose their desire for aggressive music,” adds Draiman. “And we’re happy to keep giving it to them.”

For Taking Back Sunday, the past few years have been as non-stop as the music on their latest album, Louder Now. The New York-based melodic hardcore quintet’s third album was released on April 25, 2006 and skyrocketed to Number Two on Billboard’s Top 200 chart a week later, scanning more than 157,000 copies. Now gold-certified, Louder Now has led to multiple sold out U.S. headlining arena tours, the headlining slot on the international Taste of Chaos tour in Australia, Japan and Europe, and an MTV Video Music award nomination (the MTV2 Viewer’s Choice award) for the album’s first single, “MakeDamnSure,” which received more than three million combined plays on AOL, Yahoo!, Fuse, and YouTube. The band did command performances on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Last Call With Carson Daly, and got to play themselves in an upcoming episode of a favorite show, Degrassi: The Next Generation. Last June, the band scored their third cover of taste-making music monthly Alternative Press, and received effusive reviews from People Magazine and Entertainment Weekly. Indeed Kerrang! crowned Louder Now as the critics pick for “Album Of The Year!”

Taking Back Sunday finished out 2006 with the December release of Louder Now: Partone — a 90-minute DVD containing up close and personal band stories, behind-the-scenes footage in the studio and on the road, music videos for "MakeDamnSure" and the album’s second single "Liar (It Takes One To Know One)," and no-holds barred clips of the band's performance at the Long Beach Arena. They also celebrated the holiday season’s spirit of giving by creating a card that raised money for various cancer charities.

The band ushered in 2007 with a headlining North American tour, including their first extended visit to Canada. Summer of 2007 brought them back around North America on the famed Projekt Revolution tour, helmed by Linkin Park and starring My Chemical Romance, Placebo, HIM and many other global acts. They were honored to perform at the NYC Giants Stadium location of the global Live Earth event that took place on 7-7-07. They had already begun greening their touring by recycling at venues, requesting organic items on their hospitality riders and even purchasing carbon offsets in the form of wind energy. They routinely thank promoters of their tours by donating tree buds to families in Katrina ravaged parts of the US in their names.

The hubbub surrounding Taking Back Sunday shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s heard Louder Now. The high-octane drumming and blazing syncopated riffs that rain down on its opening track, “What’s It Feel Like to Be a Ghost,” make it clear that these guys meant business when they went into the studio with producer Eric Valentine (Queens Of The Stone Age, Third Eye Blind) to record the follow-up to their 2004 best-selling album Where You Want To Be. Their intention was to bottle the lightning that this powerful band generates whenever they hit the stage. The relentless touring paid off with sold-out headlining arena tours and delirious fan support. Continued participation on the global stage including main stage stints on the UK’s famed Reading and Leeds Carling Weekend and Japan’s enormous Summersonic Festival have also increased their world-wide fan base. Combined, Louder Now, Where You Want to Be and their debut album Tell All Your Friends have scanned more than 2.5 million copies.

The band has remained a staple on both MTV and Fuse; and in 2005, they were tapped to record a theme song for Reed Richards, the lead character in the video game and hit movie Fantastic Four. “Error Operator” appears in the game, on the film’s soundtrack, and in revamped form on Louder Now.

Taking Back Sunday set out to “create something that we considered timeless,” says the band of Louder Now. “We didn’t want something that people would listen to in 10 years and say, ‘That’s from 2006 when all the records sounded like that.’ We wanted people to listen to it in 10 years and say, ‘Hell, yeah, turn that up!’”

The band has currently recruited guitarist and vocalist Matt Fazzi formerly of Facing New York to join the family and are working on their fourth album.

FILTER is back.

After a five-year hiatus and a successful run with Army of Anyone, RICHARD PATRICK has reclaimed his legacy with FILTER for ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED, out June 9th.

Produced by Josh Abraham (Slayer, 30 Seconds to Mars, Velvet Revolver, Staind, Courtney Love), PATRICK calls ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED his “howl in the night,” a harsh indictment of civilization that doesn’t exclude himself from its vision of a world falling apart.

The album’s first single “Soldiers of Misfortune” will be released later this month. PATRICK describes the soaring anthem--with its U2/Bowie flavor and stacked backdrop of buzzing electric guitars--as a “sardonic anti-war/pro-troops song.” The first-person narrative was inspired by a letter from a FILTER fan, who had enlisted in the Army reserves to get his college tuition paid; in his final year of college, he was shipped off to Iraq where he died from a rocket attack and small arms fire after just a few days of duty.

FILTER recently previewed tracks from ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED alongside such FILTER classics as “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” “Take a Picture” and others when they performed for the troops alongside Disturbed, The Pussycat Dolls and Jessica Simpson at the Operation MySpace show in Kuwait.

ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED features such collaborators as guitarist/songwriter John 5, guitarist Wes Borland and drummer Josh Freese and marks FILTER’s first release in five years since The Amalgamut. Pointed and passionate, the new album traces PATRICK’s own anger and shame with the state of things, from the intense alternative industrial blast of “The Take,” “What’s Next” and “Hatred is Contagious,” the ultimate resignation of “Kill the Day” and “Lie After Lie” to the tentative hope expressed by “Only You” and the ambient soundscape of the closing “Can Stop This.”

Henry Rollins joined the Southern California band Black Flag as vocalist in 1981. Upon the demise of the legendary punk band in 1986, he formed the Rollins Band and has been making records and touring the world ever since. Beyond taking the stage as a musician, Henry does speaking dates all over the world every year and, along with the band dates, has averaged over one hundred shows a year for twenty-five years. Recently he has also spent time visiting troops on behalf of the USO traveling to Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq, Honduras, and Egypt in the process.

Never one to confine his performances strictly to the stage, Henry has performed in several movies and TV shows including Bad Boys II, Heat, and Drew Carey. Grammy nominated for both his work with the Rollins Band and the spoken word performance of his own book Get in the Van, Henry currently occupies his time chatting up heavy hitters as the host of IFC’s The Henry Rollins Show, introducing listeners to hidden gems on his weekly radio show, and running 2-13-61, a publishing company he created to release books, CDs and DVDs of his own along with the work of others such as Henry Miller, Iggy Pop and Nick Cave.

The UK is represented by ARCHITECTS, recently signed to Century Media, who bring the chaos factor to the bill with their vicious metalcore assault. Bringing a flair for the technical and progressive end of the spectrum, PROTEST THE HERO have been lavished with rave reviews from the press for their new album and tireless touring.
